New Year, New Me?

For the moment, it’s just ‘new year, new website’, as well as ‘new year, old writing project resumed’. I am talking about one of the seven novels I have started over the years, the one chosen to be the first I would finish and eventually publish: Here and Now – In the Valley of Yearning.

There’s also ‘new year, new publication’. One of my short stories will be published this year in a Luxembourgish anthology of science-fiction and fantasy.

It could also be ‘new year, new creative outlets’. Towards the end of last year, I wrote a humoristic sketch which was staged and performed by Pirate Productions, a local English theatre group.

Seeing my work take a life of its own up there on stage was a really special experience for me, and it has prompted me to consider writing more in the dramatic genre. I have some experience on the other side, as an actress, having been on stage over several years, and I am sure it will help me in this creative endeavour. There might be other ramifications and developments, but as time is a rare commodity, my main focus this year will be finishing the novel.

In a way, it could be ‘new year, new me’ too. Old me would probably feel too lazy to put her bum down on that chair and write, write, write. But new me knows that those stories won’t write themselves.
